Portales is affectionately referred to as the “Gateway to a Good Life”, and this statement can not be more accurate. A successful and growing industrial park that is home to Abengoa Bioenergy, ethanol production, Southwest Canners, Coca-Cola product manufacturer, DairiConcepts, milk processing, and Milk Transport Services, milk transportation. Each of these industries offers competitive wages and valuable benefit packages. Portales Municipal School District offers top quality education to the youth of our community. There are 4 elementary schools, Portales Junior High, Portales High School, and an alternative learning school. To compliment the public schools is a private Christian school.
The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to fostering a business friendly environment in our community, as we are most certainly a community on the grow. The chamber helps to promote the community by sponsoring several events throughout the year. These events include the New Mexico Ag Expo, the largest agricultural expo in the state, Heritage Days celebration held in June each year, Fourth of July fireworks along with the inaugural BBQ cook off this year, annual quilt festival, and Peanut Valley festival. Portales MainStreet is an organization dedicated to downtown revitalization and a major force in bringing new small businesses to the vibrant downtown. Thanks to the joint efforts downtown Portales is a vibrant and enjoyable place to work, dine, and shop.
